No outboard engine?! That’s right. The VT-16 utilizes a Briggs & Stratton® 26HP air-cooled engine. A reliable power source with over 12,000 service dealers nationwide. The engine is coupled to POWER-VENT,™ a patented propulsion system which takes advantage of an efficient surface piercing propeller. A centrifugal clutch installed between the engine and gearcase allows you to Slow Troll™ down to 1/2 mph! It also eliminates the typical “clunk” when putting the drive into gear. Finally, we positioned the engine in-board giving the user a ‘fishable’ transom. No engine obstacle = more premium fishing space!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can the propeller run half in and half out of the water and still be efficient?
A: The fastest boats in the world use surface piercing propellers, which run half in and half out of the water. Ever seen the Miss Budweiser boat? Surface drives are the most efficient hydrodynamic propulsion devices known to man. Surface piercing propellers are larger than conventional propellers because only half of them are pushing the boat. The blade surface area of half a surfacing propeller is equal to an entire conventional propeller.
Q: How fast will the VT-16 go?
A: In the low 20’s. Not quite as fast as Miss Budweiser, but fast enough to get you from point A to point B on your favorite lake.
Q: What happens if weeds get caught in the propeller and shroud?
A: Simply place the drive in reverse and blow the weeds out. There is no need to remove them by hand like you have to on water jets or PWC’s.
Q: Can I run this boat in shallow, muddy water?
A: Yes. We require less than 12” of draft. And because we don’t have a water pump to cool the engine, you can run in very muddy waters.
